"Went to St James for dinner with friends at the weekend, having not been there for a few years. Really nice food, tasty beer, very friendly staff and massive portions. Was so glad it was nice as we have so many good memories from when this was our local."
Good selection of beers, good food too!
"This is a great little pub with a good selection of beers. We recently had a small gathering after work and had a selection of food for about 12 of us. There was enough to feed 20! I particularly enjoyed the deep fried battered camembert, Highly recommend a visit!"
Proper pub, great food
"We come here fairly regularly as it is pretty local to us, but we mainly stop for a drink on the way back from town.
Last week we decided to stop to eat. I popped in to ask if there were any free tables that evening, and the friendly guy behind the bar had a quick look round the place and said he could squeeze us in, which was great.
We arrived for our meal which was really tasty. My wife had the burger, which was not your standard burget, this was amazing. I had the seafood risotto which was also good.
What made it for us was the atmosphere and service. We were asked if everything was ok during and at the end of the meal which meant a lot, and nothing was too much trouble.
Great pub, great food and glad it is one of my locals. I'd recommend it to anyone, and will be going again."
On It Winchester
"A quick hop on from the top of town just past the railway bridge will find you exploring this 'beautifully jazzed up old fashioned local' well known for its well-kept ales, tasty pub food, and friendly staff"
"A short stroll from Winchester city centre, St James Tavern offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A good range of value for money homemade food, a choice of 5 Cask Marque recognised ales and a fine selection of wines"
"Running a pub is not rocket science but it's an easy thing to get wrong. At the St James Tavern they focus on doing the simple things well, serving a good choice of well-kept ales and a good wine list, decent food at lunch and in the evening and offering a simple cosy, environment for punters to enjoy all those things"
