At Clarkes Dairy Ltd we work hard to maintain our reputation for excellent service delivering a very wide range of quality dairy products and chilled foods.
Providing a high quality, fast and friendly, chilled distribution service to the busy caterers and retailers of Hampshire and West Sussex has been our pleasure for over eighty years.
Today, our ever growing range of products, all selected for quality, price and local production whenever possible, extends through a full range of dairy products to bread, eggs and other essential items.
Every day our small dairy takes wonderfully fresh milk from the cows grazing nearby fields to produce our mouth-watering ice creams, truly lovely, golden, clotted cream and thick, tasty yoghurts.
Our day starts early, long before the crack of dawn, because it takes time to make products as good as ours. Our small separator spins the milk around quickly causing light, golden cream to come to the top and heavier milk to fall out the bottom. The cream is then poured into pots and slow-baked to make a rich, deeply-flavoured and crusty clotted cream, while the remaining milk provides a high quality base for our low fat yoghurts. Nothing is wasted.
Later on, you can find us making sauces for our ice creams (bought-in sauces are not good enough for us); squeezing lemons for our lemon curd or melting the best cane sugar we can find to make caramel sauce. It’s not a job to us, it’s our way of our life! We take the freshest milk from the Hampshire countryside and bring it to your table to enjoy.
The Owton family have been farming on Chalcroft Farm for over 750 years with the earliest known records dating back to 1257. Rob Owton’s father traded cattle and wholesale meat to trade in the 1920’s. In the 1960’s Rob was faced with the difficult decision between farming and butchery. He chose to work with his father in his wholesale meat business as farming would have meant working 7 days a week.
Founded in 1976 at Chalcroft farm by Rob and Gill Owton, Owtons Traditional Family Butchers has established itself as one of the premier wholesale butchers and farm shop proprietors in the country, continuing to thrive with a passion for delivering best customer service, quality, knowledge and advice.
Rob worked at his father’s original shop in Southampton and when Reginald retired in 1976, Rob and his wife Gill founded the R.Owton wholesale business on their farm.
They started selling to butchers and restaurants but as word spread an increasing number of retails customers turned up at the 225-acre farm that today supplies 40% of Chalcroft’s beef.
The shop business has since expanded to add a further 4 farm shops at Kimbridge, Garsons, Country Market and the recently opened butchery and farm shop at Rosebourne near Andover.

Mud Pies are created using only the very finest, fresh and natural ingredients grown or reared in the sunny South Downs. Whether it be the traditional steak and ale or the more adventurous pork and chorizo, there are always beautifully crafted pies on offer.
These pies are award-winning! Fresh off the back of winning ‘Britain’s Best Vegetarian Pie’ at the British Pie Awards, their Steak & Ale Pie also won the Champion Pie at ‘The Great Hampshire Sausage & Pie Competition 2018’
Chalk Stream Foods, source, prepare and supply some of the finest, freshest rainbow trout from farms on the River Itchen and the River Test. All farms are long-established and sustainable operations, approved by GLOBALG.A.P, Freedom Food and Quality Trout UK. They are members of Hampshire Fare which is well-known in the region for passionately supporting the county’s unique and talented food producers.
